Eastern Astrology goes by many names, for example Vedic Astrology, Hindu Astrology, Indian Astrology, and Jyotish. It is considered the oldest of astrological methods, believed to be over 5000 years old. Aptly, the literal translation of the Sanskrit word, Jyotisha, is the Science of Light, and what is a better way to view astrology?
Eastern Astrology contrasts with Western Astrology but compliments it quite well. Speaking generally, where Western is interpreted from the tropical zodiac, Eastern is from the sidereal. Where Western is solar based, Eastern is lunar based. Where Western is psychological and mostly internal, Eastern is event based and mostly external. It is the difference between why someone does something and what someone does. But unfortunately, where there are countless clear and understandable educational texts and courses on Western Astrology in all of its variations, most of Eastern Astrology is enshrouded in antiquity and advancing it is hampered by language and cultural barriers.
